Among the most prized wood-frame cases are those with mother-of-pearl inlays. A cardboard base was coated wtih black Japanese varnish, inlaid with mother of pearl chips and then accented with a painted pattern. This case contains two 1/9 pl portraits assumed to be man and wife.
