1/6 plate D Double Elliptical Brass Mat with velvet imprinted lining M. Brady Estimated Dates - Late 1840s thru late 1850s

M. Brady / Matthew Brady quite famous in his time for his photographic record entitled "Gallery of Illustrious Americans." He received numerous awards and provides us with many portraits of politicians, celebrities and political events that would have otherwise never existed. Examples of which are Abraham Lincoln and the phases of the civil war. He trained many operators and this image was most likely not taken by Brady himself, however he is considered one of the most important contributors to photographic history (Mace, 9).
